Shimmer Island is a fascinating look into the daily life of a middle-aged bartender working in an upscale restaurant striving to please her guests and make sense of the world around her.

Taking tremendous pride in her work, Jamie Holiday masters the art of taking care of her clientele in ways that bring financial and spiritual rewards to her that most others are unaware of.

Noting and watching the human condition gives Jamie stories to write about and financial success which helped her raise a family, buy a house and take time off to travel.

Her journaling and writing about her guests also give Jamie insights into her own future; she wonders if she can find a job outside of the restaurant business (at some point) as her body continues to age.

Youth and technology are quickly replacing Jamie, which is depressing and heart-wrenching, so she chooses to ignore this as much as possible.

Some say Jamie is naïve, and she would probably agree.

Her compassion and concern for her clientele in this story ultimately leads to trouble which Jamie has no idea is lurking around the corner.
